			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Depending on the type of reverse osmosis system that is used and the size of the pores in the membrane, anywhere from three to five gallons of water is wasted for every one gallon that is cleaned. Water is too precious a commodity to waste like this.<br />
Once the filtered water is produced it is a highly reactive &#8220;sponge&#8221; that will absorb contaminants from the air and the container if not handled or contained to standards.<br />
On its own, it lets a lot of bad things through…..Things like: Chlorine, chloramines, hydrolysable phosphates and ortho-phosphates, VOC&#8217;s and pesticides, all found in tap water, will all pass through an R/O membrane unless pre-filtered…. Micron filters block particles that would pass right through a reverse osmosis system membrane.<br />
If the water that is being filtered is below 75 degrees when using low pressure, 65psi or lower, R/O system, efficiency drops drastically….<br />
Reverse osmosis systems are very slow to produce water. Systems generally produce only 1 to 2 gallon of water per hour…..<br />
A well functioning R/O membrane will not only remove the hardness from your tap water it is also capable of stripping electrons off water molecules making the filtered water acidic, (pH less than 7)….. Also, drinking de-mineralized water is not healthy. The trace minerals found naturally in ground water are good for your health. Depending on where you live, your water may be your best source of potassium or other minerals.<br />
Studies have shown that drinking de-mineralized water on a regular basis is bad for the digestive system and sometimes results in mineral deficiencies. Installing reverse osmosis systems in the home could cause similar health problems for you and your loved ones.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Water is becoming increasingly important to today’s energy and environmental equation&#8230;&#8230; Water is a valuable resource and deserves our attention.</p>
<p>The average U.S. home uses about 100 to 150 gallons of water per day per person&#8230;.. Europeans use an average of half that amount&#8230;.. U.S. water consumption has tripled over the last 30 years while the population has grown just 50%&#8230;.. Globally, water consumption is doubling every 20 years&#8230;..According to government statistics, 36 states expect to see a water shortage in the next three years. Globally, the situation is extremely serious; today more than 1.1 billion people are without access to clean drinking water, as published by the United Nations.</p>
<p>Treating water is a very energy intensive operation today. Energy costs are nearly 30% of the operations costs at water treatment facilities. And, as water becomes scarcer, more resources will be needed to keep water clean and usable for consumption. In other words, wasting water could wind up costing all of us a lot more financially and environmentally.</p>
<p>There is no single solution to addressing water scarcity. It will take better infrastructure, conservation and education—along with innovative technology—to help provide a sustainable future for our water resources. Each of us has an opportunity to make a difference. By understanding how you personally use water, we are better able to easily adapt our lifestyles in order to better conserve water.</p>
<p>Easy steps to save water:</p>
<p>Check household faucets for leaks. A faucet with even a slow drip takes 10 to 25 gallons of water. Just think, 15 drips per minute add up to almost 3 gallons of water wasted per day, 65 gallons wasted per month, and 788 gallons wasted per year!<br />
Keep showers to 5 minutes or less in length. A fifteen-minute shower takes 60-150 gallons of water.<br />
Keep a pitcher of water in the refrigerator. Then you won&#8217;t have to run tap water to cool it.<br />
Use a broom to sweep your driveway, garage, or sidewalk instead of using water.<br />
Use a bucket of water to wash your bike or the family car, then rinse quickly with a hose.<br />
Water your lawn in the evening or in the early morning to avoid evaporation. Be careful to water only the lawn and not the sidewalk or street.<br />
Use water only when you need it. Don&#8217;t leave water running; be sure to turn it off when you are finished. </p>

Consider the path taken by most bottled water as it makes its way to your home or work place….If it’s spring water, large pumps need to be set up at the site of the spring to help extract the water from the ground….the water is pumped directly into sitting 18 wheelers…. their huge diesel engines idling while they await their load….the trucks are soon motoring down the highway to the bottling plant where the water is offloaded and put through a filtration system…..<br />
Once filtered, the water is then bottled, sealed and packaged…It is then loaded onto diesel trucks again for its trip to your home, office, or retailer…..The water is so heavy that the 18 wheelers cannot carry a full load….<br />
If the water is in five gallon jugs, it is then off loaded by a young, strong, delivery person and lugged into your home or office where it will sit waiting for you to wrestle it onto the cooler….In the process of placing the bottle onto the cooler, the nose of the blue bottle will usually be submerged into the coolers reservoir thus contaminating your soon to be drunk water….<br />
When you consider the carbon footprint left behind by this arcane method of getting this “not-so-clean” drinking water and add to it the fact that about ten gallons of water get wasted producing a five gallon jug of water, it’s a wonder anyone is buying bottled water these days….. </p>

•	98% of those deaths occur in the developing world.<br />
•	Poor people living in the slums, often pay 5 to 10 times more per liter of water then wealthy people living in the same city.<br />
•	At any given time, half of the world&#8217;s hospital beds are occupied by people suffering from water borne disease.<br />
•	Every 15 seconds, a child dies from water related disease.<br />
•	On average, a child living in poverty carries 1000 parasitic worms in his or her body at any one time.<br />

<p>So what does this do with water coolers? I think this kind of information lends perspective. As Americans we are completely oblivious to the water crisis occurring on this planet….. Its severity is epic…. Before this half of the century is over, there most certainly will be wars over water.<br />
When we purchase those five dollar bottles of boutique water offered at popular hotels, it speaks to both the time and place that we&#8217;ve gotten to as a country.<br />
If Americans began drinking filtered tap water instead of expensive bottled water and sent the money saved to developing nation’s water programs, the water crisis could be solved….<br />
Just by redirecting our water dollars we could enjoy the same wonderful beverage and help avert a global crisis…</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Have you ever wondered just how clean the water you&#8217;re drinking from your cooler is? Think about it, if you have a bottled water cooler, every time you place a new blue bottle on top are your cooler, the nose of the bottle goes down into your drinking water&#8230; ever wonder where that bottles been? Loading docks, warehouses, trucks&#8230; how clean do you think that knows about bottle really is? Many people tell us: “but we cleaned the top of the bottle with Windex”… I wonder&#8230; what&#8217;s better for us to drink? Dirt or Windex?<br />
Every water cooler on the market today, whether it&#8217;s a bottled water cooler, or a filtered water cooler, has a reservoir inside of it…. The reservoir is no more than a plain bucket, sometimes made of plastic and sometimes made of stainless steel. &#8230; The purpose of the reservoir is to provide a place for the water to sit and be chilled so that it&#8217;s cold when you go to get a drink.<br />
The problem is; these reservoirs are supposed to be cleaned and sterilized periodically…. The drinking water that sits inside of these reservoirs, whether it&#8217;s bottled water, or filtered water, has no chlorine in it&#8230;. Non- chlorinated water cannot sit stagnant in a bucket for days, weeks,  and months on end without growing bacteria.<br />
The recommended level of bacteria in drinking water is to be no higher than 500 parts per million&#8230;. We routinely test our clients water prior to changing their coolers and get back results back that show bacteria levels as high as 40,000 ppm !<br />
Stonybrook offers the only “dry technology” in the world&#8230; our appliances have no water inside of them&#8230;No reservoir&#8230; When you push a button on the Stonybrook cooler to get a glass of water, only then does the machine allow water into itself…. it ultra filters and chills the water to 37° and places it in your cup in a half a second&#8230; the water never sits in a reservoir holding bacteria.
